ANKARA
Turkey’s benchmark stock index ended the day down 0.11% to close at 105,033.02 points on Monday.
Starting the week at 105,700.30 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index dropped 119.15 points from 105,152.17 points at Friday’s close.
On a weekly basis, the benchmark index posted a 4.90% hike last week. At the beginning of this year, the BIST 100 stood around 89,000 points.
During Monday’s trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 104,971.68 points and 105,834.02 points — 58 stocks on the index rose, 33 fell, and nine were flat compared to the previous close.
Closing the day with a market value of nearly 695 billion Turkish liras ($123 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 9.64 billion Turkish liras ($1.7 billion).
By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.49 billion) and private lenders Garanti BBVA ($7.59 billion) and Akbank ($7.48 billion) were the top companies of BIST 100.
Shares of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti BBVA, and defense company Aselsan saw the highest trading volumes on Monday — accounting for 39.5% of the benchmark index’s total trade volume.
Stocks of diesel engine and tractor manufacturer Tumosan Motor (TMSN) showed the top performance — up 8.60% — as shares of Sekerbank (SKBNK), a Turkish lender, did the worst with a 3.64% drop.
An ounce of gold sold for $1,488.00 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,495.50 at the previous close.
The price of Brent oil was $60.18 per barrel as of 6.30 p.m. local time (1530GMT) on Monday — with a day range of $60.11 to $61.55.
At the beginning of 2019, a barrel of Brent oil sold for around $53.
