We are faced with a new one of Woody Allen’s philosophically deep films in which neurotic characters experience conflicts. Master filmmaker known for his comedy films in the bittersweet genre; He leaves us with elements of drama and tension in this new film, where existential themes dominate. INFLUENCE OF THE ITALIAN RENAISSANCE
When we look at the director’s cinema narrative, we see once again the effects of the French New Wave Movement (La Nouvelle Vague) and Italian Neorealism Cinema (Neorealismo), which dominate Woody Allen’s cinema, accompanied by a fascinating atmosphere. The origin of the story is inspired by the legend of Cephalos and Procris in Ancient Greek Mythology. In addition, we see that the finale of the film is a reference to the painting The Death of Procris by the Italian Renaissance painter Piero di Cosimo, famous for the mythological and allegorical subjects he painted at the end of the Quattrocento Period. This artwork is inspired by Publius Ovidius Naso‘s tale of the death of Procris at the hands of her husband Cephalus, in Metamorphoses VII.
