Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the opening film of the 81st Venice International Film Festival on August 28, 2024, as a sequel to the first movie called Beetlejuice in 1988, It was released by Warner Bros. Pictures. This production, signed by Oscar-nominated master director Tim Burton, is decorated with the director’s extraordinary stop-motion animations techniques and animations. Wanting to make a movie that didn’t specifically involve too much technology, Tim Burton and lead actor Michael Keaton agreed not to use excessive amounts of technology. In addition to the old players, the new cast includes; Jenna Ortega, who previously worked with Burton on the 2022 Netflix series Wednesday, and Monica Belluci, whose relationship with Burton began during the film production phase. Also in the cast is Willem Dafoe, a successful actor with 3 Academy-Oscar award nominations, who is his first collaboration with Burton.

Introducing the classic story to a new generation of viewers, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice takes the audience on a crazy journey into the corridors of the subconscious, thanks to the mysterious door opening to the other world. In this journey where we go into the unconscious of the dark character Lydia and her rebellious young daughter Astrid, they meet the family man Richard and repair their past traumas. On the other hand, in the movie, Parental Problem and Generation Conflict issues occur between mother Lydia and daughter Astrid. German-American psychoanalyst Karen Horney, who is the representative of “ego psychology”, a neo-Freudian school, and one of the founders of the American Psychoanalysis Institute, in her book The Neurotic Personality of Our Time, she defines the neurotic individual as the “stepchild” of modern culture and reveals that the anxiety underlying neuroses is based on sociological relations and arises from conflicts that dominate the inner world of human. In Horney’s book; “The fact that the majority of individuals in a general culture face similar problems suggests that these problems are created by certain living conditions existing in that culture. The fact that motivating forces and conflicts in another culture are different from ours seems to support that they represent common problems of ‘human nature’.” she states that these basic similarities are actually caused by the difficulties in our period and culture, and conveys that the difficulties in our culture are due to spiritual conflicts.
