Produced by Walt Disney Productions, Rideback and Walt Disney Pictures, Haunted Mansion is a supernatural horror comedy film written by Katie Dippold and directed by American filmmaker Justin Simien. Premiered at Disneyland in Anaheim, California on July 15, 2023, the story of the film is adapted from one of the funniest Disneyland theme park attractions of all time, a dark promenade adventure called Haunted Mansion. This new movie, following the adaptation of Haunted Mansion (2003), starring Eddie Murphy, and the 2021 Muppets Haunted Mansion, unlike previous versions has a huge budget of $157 million dollars. Disney’s; Staying true to its legacy of magic, fun, and adventure, the production comes up with a different and original story. With this; It also presents iconic characters from Disneyland’s famous Ghost House (such as Hat Box Ghost) in a new visual world. In particular, we see that the character of Hat Box Ghost refers to a fictional character named The Headless Horseman in the 1820 classic short story of American writer Washington Irving called The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

MADAME LEOTA AND THE DOOM CARS
At the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, oval black vehicles called “Doom Buggies” provide a fun ride inside the mansion by turning the guests left and right with the Omniover navigation system. The chair that the character Harriet (played by Tiffany Haddish) sits in during the spirit session and is then fired from the Mansion is a nod to the rides known as “Doom Buggies” on the Haunted Mansion ride at Disney parks. The character of Madame Leota, played by Oscar-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis, was actually inspired by the American artist Leota Toombs, who works as an Imagineer at Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development, Inc. In 2009, Leota Toombs’s name was officially selected among the Disney Legends for her contributions to Disneyland in the Attractions and Imagination categories. Leota Toombs’s face was modeled after the face of Madame Leota in the crystal ball and is immortalized in the Haunted Mansion.

Filming began on October 4, 2021 It lasted until late February 2022 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Atlanta, Georgia. The visual effects of the production were performed by DNEG and Industrial Light & Magic., the production took place at Trilith Studios. Haunted Mansion’s music was composed by Oscar-nominated American composer and pianist Kris Bowers. Haunted Mansion (rated PG-13) is a fun and adventurous children’s movie in the genres of horror, comedy, and fantasy.
