LOVE, COMEDY AND ADVENTURE TOGETHER

Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth sequel of the Thor series with a budget of 185 million dollars, made its mark among the record-breaking productions of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with its box office revenue of 302 million dollars in the first weekend. The God of Thunder Thor (Chris Hemsworth), embarks on a journey like no other adventure he’s ever faced, this time on a journey of inner peace. Oscar-winning New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi, who gave life to the character of Korg with his voice and also directed the film. Also The film’s cast includes Oscar-winning stars; Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Matt Damon and Russell Crowe. New technologies were also used in the film, which was created by a huge visual effects team working for hundreds of hours. One of them was the use of The Volume technology. This new technology, in which the actors are positioned against a 360-degree digital Greenscreen screen, was used in this movie for the first time among Marvel productions. For this new technology, which was previously used in Disney‘s The Mandalorian series, the executive producer of the film, Brian Chapek, states that it creates a seamless effect between the real world and the digital world.Omnipotence City, the home of the gods in the movie, was filmed as one of the largest sets of The Volume. Additionally, filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia, and local filming took place in and around Sydney, on the southeast coast of the continent.

PLOT OF THE FILM

Thor encounters a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who wants the gods destroyed. To combat this great threat, Thor; Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) enlists the help of Korg (Taika Waititi) and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who uses the surprisingly alluring Mjolnir as “Mighty Thor.” Together they embark on a terrifying cosmic adventure to stop evil.

OMNIPOTENCE CITY

Luca Vannella, head of the film’s hair department, says she used more than 200 wigs, numerous hairpieces and braids for more than 20 god characters in Omnipotence City. During the fight in Omnipotence City, when the guards are injured, golden blood splatters, not red blood. This is a reference to the story of Zeus and Danae in Greek Mythology, where Zeus turned into golden rain to impress Danae. It is also a reference to 2016’s Gods of Egypt, in which Egyptian gods have no blood but gold. Also, Valkyrie’s ship is called “Aegir”. In Norse mythology, Ægir is a Jotun, a sea giant and one of the sea gods. Also, Thor’s vest has the appearance of a tree-like structure made up of nine spheres. This is a flamboyant rendering of the gigantic mythological World Tree Yggdrasil, which in Norse mythology is believed to connect the cosmos and its nine realms (a depiction of the nine realms). Another detail is the goats Toothgrinder and Toothgnasher, who pull the chariot of the god Thor in Norse mythology. Another detail is that Toothgrinder and Toothgnasher, goats pulling the chariot of the god Thor in Norse mythology and comics, appear in the movie.

GORR THE GOD BUTCHER

Oscar and Golden Globe-winning British actor Christian Bale refused to act in another comic book or superhero movie after The Dark Knight series. However, when his children insisted that he take the role, he agreed to appear as the film’s Antagonist, Gorr the God Butcher. Chris Hemsworth’s real-life wife, Elsa Pataky, appears in the movie as Thor’s ex-girlfriend, the “wolf woman.” In addition, the character of Love, the daughter of Gorr in the movie, is played by Chris Hemsworth’s real-life daughter India Rose Hemsworth.

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER

Based on the comics of American comics artist Jason Aaron, in the film (as the makers also say); It is underlined that no matter how big the conquests of the god of lightning Thor, in fact, his inner space is even larger. Because in every struggle he enters, it is shown that his loved ones are greatly harmed. That’s why the film tells us that what he actually ran away from was true love and that he experienced it the hard way. In this sense, the Slovenian philosopher and sociologist Renata Salecl‘s concept of Dilemma of Choice or Ideology of Choice emerges. Salecl says, that big life choices don’t just create alternative futures, they also reinterpret our past. Just like in the choice of Thor, who chose conquest in the past and he chose love later and reunited with his ex. One of the distinctive features of Marvel Studios’ films is that it can gather various genres under one roof. Again in this production, a crazy and action-packed adventure awaits you.
