Tottenham’s new manager Jose Mourinho from Portugal is ready for a new adventure after taking a one-year break.
Mourinho last managed Manchester United in the English Premier League from May 2016 to December 2018.
He worked for several major European clubs including Porto, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United. He lifted the UEFA Champions League title twice with Portuguese powerhouse Porto and the Italian Serie A giants Inter, in 2004 and 2010, respectively.
The 56-year-old manager is regarded as one of the most successful head coaches in Europe having won 25 major trophies during his 19-year career.
Mourinho started to win titles after he was appointed manager for Porto in 2002.
He won back-to-back Portuguese League title with Porto in 2003 and 2004.
With Mourinho at the helm, Porto stamped its mark with great football in Europe, winning two major European trophies, UEFA Cup in 2003 and UEFA Champions League in 2004.
Wins league titles in three major divisions
He signed a three-year contract with Chelsea in 2004 following his success in Portugal.
There, fans witnessed big achievements with two Premier League titles, two League Cups in addition to an FA Cup.
His first term with Chelsea ended in 2007 and Inter named him new manager in 2008.
In addition two Serie A titles in two seasons under Mourinho, Inter became the first Italian club to achieve the triple after capturing the Serie A, “Coppa Italia” (Italy Cup) and Champions League in 2010.
This was Mourinho’s second Champions League title with two different teams.
Following his departure from Inter, Mourinho signed a contract with Real Madrid and won the “Copa del Rey” (Spanish King’s Cup) in 2011 and Spanish La Liga in 2012.
Returns to Premier League in 2013
He returned to his first English club, Chelsea, in 2013, claiming the Premier League and the League Cup in 2015.
Before joining Tottenham, Mourinho managed another Premier League club, Manchester United.
The Man Utd had been criticized for poor performances under his management as Mourinho gained only two major trophies, League Cup and UEFA Europa League in 2017.
Mourinho or ‘The Special One’ also won the FIFA World Coach of the Year award in 2010.
