Turkish stocks begin Tuesday looking up

ANKARA (AA) – ANKARA 

Turkey’s benchmark stock index climbed by 0.33%, or 350.46 points, to start Tuesday at 107,196.64 points.

On Monday, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index hit 20-month high at 106,846.18 points, up 1.39% with a daily trading volume of 10 billion Turkish liras ($1.75 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 5.7390 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Tuesday, compared to 5.7260 at Monday’s close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also increased to 6.3600, versus 6.3330, and one British pound traded for 7.4570 Turkish liras, while it was 7.4430 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil was sold for around $62.35 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Tuesday.
