Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes will undergo surgery due to ankle injury on Monday, the English Premier League’s Everton said.
The Blues said on their website that Gomes, 26, sustained an ankle injury, playing against Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday’s game that ended with a 1-1 draw.
“After undergoing hospital tests, it was confirmed he had suffered a fracture dislocation to his right ankle,” said Everton on their website.
His teammate, Turkish international forward Cenk Tosun, who leveled the score for Everton in the match, shared his feelings on Gomes’ injury:
“You win, you draw, you lose but all that doesn’t matter when something like this happens. I wish I didn’t score, I wish we lost 0-5 and this didn’t happen,” Tosun said on Instagram.
“I know you will come back stronger bro and we will be there for you.”
Everton also added that they will provide further updates in due course.
The 26-year-old Everton midfielder joined his team from Barcelona in June 2019.
