German football powerhouse Bayern Munich’s defender Lucas Hernandez was diagnosed with a “partial ligament tear in his right ankle” on Wednesday, the team said.
The Bavarians said on their website that Hernandez underwent medical tests by club doctors.
“Lucas Hernandez’s MRT scan in Munich on Wednesday afternoon confirmed the result of the initial scan carried out by club doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt and the medical staff in Athens (partial ligament tear in right ankle). The Bayern defender must now undergo surgery,” the club said.
The 23-year-old player sustained injuries during Tuesday’s Champions League game against Olympiacos that Bayern Munich won by 3-2.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed that “he will be out for a long time, several weeks”.
