WASHINGTON
U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Turkey with economic collapse Monday should Ankara take action in Syria he deems “off limits” ahead of a planned operation in the country’s northeast.
“As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!),” Trump wrote on Twitter.
“They must, with Europe and others, watch over the captured ISIS fighters and families,” he added.
The president has been facing mounting pressure Monday after the White House announced late Sunday the U.S. would pull back its forces.
