NATO is watching developments in the wake of Saturday’s drone attacks on two facilities of Saudi Arabia’s state-owned oil company Aramco “with concern,” its head said on Tuesday.
“Any disruption to global energy supplies is clearly of concern to NATO Allies. We are monitoring developments carefully and with concern,” Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told Anadolu Agency.
Stoltenberg urged all parties to prevent further such incidents, which he said pose a “serious threat” to regional security.
Earlier Monday, Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed responsibility for the attack and warned foreign companies and workers against coming close to the company’s units, which it said might “be targeted again.”
The Iranian-backed Houthis, whose medium- and long-range ballistic missiles are usually intercepted and neutralized by the Saudi air defense system, have targeted certain strategic locations of Saudi Arabia with armed drones.
