FIBA World Cup semis to tip off on Friday

ISTANBUL

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup semifinals will tip-off in China on Friday.

In the semifinals on Friday in the capital Beijing, France will face Argentina while Australia will play against Spain.

On Wednesday, team USA’s 58-game winning streak came to an end with a 79-89 loss to France in the quarterfinals.

The loss also brought an end to the Americans’ streak of five straight major tournament titles.

Team USA had been unbeaten in the last 13 years in the World Cup and Olympics.

Australia beat the Czech Republic 82-70 to advance to the basketball World Cup semifinals.

With a 90-78 win over Poland, Spain on Tuesday qualified for the semis while Argentina beat Serbia 97-87 to make the semifinals.

Thursday schedule

Two classification matches are slated in the FIBA World Cup for Thursday, as Serbia will face the USA, and Poland will take on the Czech Republic to be ranked 5 to 8.
